Phoenix and dragon Gaiwan LidPhoenix and dragon Gaiwan Saucer

The Gaiwan is one of the most simple and elegant ways to drink tea. Gaiwan means lidded cup or bowl, and predates the teapot in China as a tea drinking implement. Originally a bowl was used to drink powdered Green Tea, it was during the Ming dynasty that the innovations in both tea ritual and tea preparation gave rise to a smaller, yet equally functional vessel.

The lid allows the tea to be infused right in the bowl and serves to both hold the heat in and to strain the leaves while either drinking directly out of the gaiwan or while pouring into another vessel.

All Of Our Tea Ware (Cups, Pots, Infusers, Etc.) are Tested & Certified by an Independent Laboratory in the US to make sure there is no lead or cadmium.
How Do the labs test for lead?
Test 1: Test for leachability. In this test, the item is submerged or treated with an acid solution for a period of time and then the solution is tested for the presence of lead.
Test 2: Test for overall presence of lead. In this test, the complete piece is ground up and tested for any presence of lead in the item. This is the more complete solution of the two.
